reading book #2

My reading book for my reading journal # 2 was the book "Prom" by Laurie Halse Anderson. The author of the book we read in class too, "Speak." I really like that book, so i thought another one of her books would be just as good. So that is why I read this book.

Symbol
The picture below connects to my book, because the Prom dress that she first got was ruined, but the Prom dress she gets from her bestfriend's grandma is a symbol for keeping faith and hope, which I thought was close to what the theme was in my opinion. "Never stop believing or give up on hoping."

Connection
This book has a connection with my imagination about the prom. I thought the prom was always suppose to be your perfect night, with pretty hair, awesome shoes, and the perfect dress, handsome date and a blast of a night. I guess it was all that to Ashley Hannigan, the main character in the book. The book had a tale of something that could happen to any regular girl, and I can relate that to what i imagine of the prom, even though I haven't experienced going through everything that is done. There is always something wrong in mind, but we always get through it somehow, in this case going to the prom and getting ready.

Prediction
I think what happens after the book is that Ashley Hannigan will start college off well, meeting new friends. She will soon meet a guy and be in a relationship with him. On one of their dates he will take her dancing, and she will remember about her prom. Ashley soon starts too fall behind on her school work because of the guy. After a while, the two of them wont be a couple anymore and Ashley will continue to study and work harder than before

reading book #1 !

The first book i had read was "Trouble's Daughter" by Katherine Kirkpatrick.

Prediction After Book
My prediction of what happens after the end of the book is that the man Susanna meets from her brothers work place; John Cole gets married with her, after a while they will have 3 children and Susanna would be the mother telling her children about her story where the Indians took her as their own. Her husband would come every night after work and listen to Susanna tell the children the story for bedtime.

Journal/Diary Entry
Hello, my name is Susanna Hutchinson, everything that has happened to me was over-whelming. Losing my family, and living the life of Indians i barely know anything of. I hated living with the Indians, since they were the people who killed my family, but after seeing how much they care for me, protect me and love me, i have learned to love and accept them as a family. Later on i am faced with the decision that separates my Indian life and from my old life. Of course i was excited to see my family members who are blood related to me, but I also didn't want to leave my Indian family who I have gone through so much with.

Poem
It is not fair, never will it be.
I am not this "pretty leaf"
I will not love them, I want to be killed.
My mother, i long for her.
They don't understand , nobody does !
They can not make me, I will not let them !
It's too late, i have changed.

This connects with my book by showing what the main character feels like after being taken as a child of one of their own. Susanna, the main character has to go through living a different life with new family members, she doesn't learn to accept them and love them like real family, but after all they have gone through and she sees how much they care for her and how well they protect, she accepts them as family and doesn't want to leave them.

Heroic ! or not.

Some heroic qualities Odysseus has with the characters in my reading book #3 are his intelligence, determination, and courageous. The characters in my book "Hearts at Stake" that have these qualities similar to Odysseus are Lucy Hamilton, a mortal friend of an immortal, a vampire. She is always faced with troubles concerning herself and her soon-to-be-queen-vampire-friend. Lucy has to face other vampires who want to kidnap Solange, the soon to be vampire queen, because of her pheromones. The qualities Lucy shows are the same as Odysseus' but in a different problem. These qualities compare with my own idea of a hero, because these qualities are what i think a hero should have. Intelligence to act quick and know what to do, to not make mistakes. Determination to never give up and lose the battle of doing good. Courageous to never hesitate or think of yourself as never good. These qualities are shown in Odysseus too, when he is faced to go against the Gods and the problems along the way that cause more of his men to die. His intelligence helped him think of strategies to over-come those problems or destroy them. His determination to go back home helped make him strong-minded and have the right sense of what to do in order to get what he wants. How courageous he also is from battling monsters and creatures, losing his men, and going through problems such as his ship getting destroyed by Poseidon.

This is a picture of the book i am reading for Reading Journal #3.
