group book talk

For my group book talk, i was the first one to go up. I felt as if i was the only one prepared out of my whole group. At first i was nervous but i got through it fine. I covered everything that i needed to talk about plus it was within the time limit. This went better then my first book talk. Some changes i have made were to practice and it was with my peers which made it more comfortable. The questions i got were merely to repeat what i had said before about my book talk, but i do not think it was because i did not explain it clearly, it was because some of my group members were not paying attention. The next book that is going to be for my book talk is a book called The Last Kiss by Luanne Rice. So far the book is quite interesting, not in a entertaining way but in a weird way.

second thoughts again?

well first of all I'm thinking i should change me reading.
The grapes of wrath is slowly getting interesting.
i don't think this book is for me.
some connections if made with this book is that the characters in the story Joad, Muley and Casy have been acting like children, hiding and being trouble makers.
there is also a part in the story talking purely about cars, and selling cars.
our lives today are pretty much about cars as well !
we all want a car that we can drive for those far away places.
from the main characters actions i think in a way it is childish, that they are just hiding around and looking out for the bankers.
I think that their actions are also smart, so that they can take action without getting in trouble for it, or getting kicked out and having no time to let the bankers know their feelings.

oh finally

okay so my book !
"Grapes of Wrath" oh my, the beginning was not for me.
i could not understand it. but now that i am reading more of the book and coming to understand it.
its well written and perhaps exciting.
in the book Joad is visiting his old house where his parents live.
he finds out that they aren't there along with the old pastor, Casy.
His feelings are filled with anger. I think that it was very mature of him not to throw a fuss and a tantrum.
I think some connections i have the main character is that i can get mad easily, but can control myself to not be aggressive.
I like how the main character is so welcoming when it comes to friends, when he sees them he greets them and spends time with them.
I also like this other character who is so persistent is staying at his home even though the banks tried kicking him out already.
the character stays firm and in control of his thoughts.
I like how the story continued on with the story line instead of going to a one page description of what could be a literary device such as imagery and symbol.
Then that one page description applys with the story line, making it very difficult to read, because i do not know when the story line is in the mode.

thanks acadeca !

okay so the book i am reading for my 5th indie reading journal book is "The Grapes Of Wrath."
This book i have read so far connects to one thing in particular that i have in mind, that is from a friend of mine. In the book, the men talk to the Banks, who are the people making them leave their house, because the property belongs to them now. How the men react is with the intention to protect their house to matter what. How this connects with a dear friend of mine is because whenever she is stuck in a situation, whether it would be depressing, or aggravating she will try her hardest to maintain her perfect place in mind. They both have different ideas of what they want to save but still have the same concept. The concept I think they both have is having the actions to protect what you love. A text this book connects to is Prom by Laurie Halse Anderson. This book connects with Grapes of Wrath because they both have something precious to them that they are willing to protect or save. For the book prom it would be the prom of course, but for Grapes of Wrath it would me the houses, they live in. Some main differences i find in my opinion is that losing your house is way more heart-breaking than losing your high school prom. The transition of the time spent with their precious objects or places are different in Grapes of Wrath he has had the home for many of years, past down from his family.

reflection on book talk

okay so from my book talk yesterday, i think i did pretty good.
I liked how i told my summary of the book, it wasn't long nor short.
The imagery passage that i read was nice, but i think i could've thought of a more descriptive passage. My visual aid was enough to get my audiences attention, in my opinion. The universal theme i came purposed could have applied with many other things so that made it seem easy, but is easier for me to apply it with another text. The questions also asked from ms. crabtree was average questions i seemed to have difficulties trying to answer, perhaps i was nervous or didn't think about the book, palpably. I think i should be prepared when given questions, by asking myself what the audience would ask me, so i could answer it ahead of time. So i won't have to repeat the statements i made, i should state my statements clearly and understandably. Maybe even say a conundrum to break the ice between audience and speaker, so i can possibly relate to them more too.

what love can do

in my book Morning Light the cowboy named Clint Harrigan changed his mind about believing in psychic.
He has changed from believing in his religion and being so hard headed to believing in love and being kind and gentle.
This change has made it possible for him to save his child.
I don't have an exact quote that shows how he is dynamic, but I have read the book well enough to understand Clint's characteristics.
I believe Clint has become dynamic by the love, affection, and connection that has affected him.

morning light

okay so the book i am reading for my independent reading book #4 is Morning Light by Catherine Anderson. The actions the main character chooses to make is to help people even though she may make things worst. Since the main character has special powers to see into the future. I agree with the actions she has done, which is go after the guy she has a vision about with his son that is dying from the coldness in the wilderness. Loni, the main character thinks that she would help make the future of bad things happen if she interferes. After thinking about it and talking to her grandma who is also a "psychic." I think it is very heroic of her to be brave and helpful to others who she only has visions about. This one vision in particular is one she has had her whole life, she has dream about that cowboy, Clint Harrigan. My favorite part of the book I have read so far is when the main character is taking action into trying to save the lost boy, in the wilderness. She goes to Clint Harrigan to talk about the buy, which is his son.

reading book #3

The book i chose for reading book number three was the "Hearts At Stake" by Alyxandra Harvey.
I chose this book for my reading journal number three because I was going to read this on my free-time so why not just use it for my reading journal too. I loved this book so much i read it in only one day and a half :).

Connection with A movie
I think this book connects with the movie "Twlight". Their problems/situations are similar and they both have the same happy ending as most movies and books usually have. This book especially reminded me about "Twilight" because of the characters which are mythical creatures; vampires. I thought these two items shared a common theme as well. Which was a main one in my opinion. "Always keep believing."

Prediction after book
my prediction of what happens after the book is that Solange Drake, will not like being bossed around by her parents and will have to go everywhere with body guards since she is now a princess. A vampire princess that is. Kieran Black would want to go out on dates with her but her parents would refuse for them to go out. So they would have indoor dates but Solange wouldn't like that because they would get no privacy. Lucy and Nicholas would sneak out and this time Nicholas would be the bad type of boy, but still very responsible.

Connection with a picture
i think this book connects to my book by showing the theme of the book in my opinion, which is
"dont ever doubt til you have no more hope, always keep believing"
This sunrise shows a new day after a long day of tired or bad happenings, but just as you were about to give up, a new day came and you did not give up. I think the sunrise would be a symbol of standing up even when your kicked down.

reading book #2

My reading book for my reading journal # 2 was the book "Prom" by Laurie Halse Anderson. The author of the book we read in class too, "Speak." I really like that book, so i thought another one of her books would be just as good. So that is why I read this book.

Symbol
The picture below connects to my book, because the Prom dress that she first got was ruined, but the Prom dress she gets from her bestfriend's grandma is a symbol for keeping faith and hope, which I thought was close to what the theme was in my opinion. "Never stop believing or give up on hoping."

Connection
This book has a connection with my imagination about the prom. I thought the prom was always suppose to be your perfect night, with pretty hair, awesome shoes, and the perfect dress, handsome date and a blast of a night. I guess it was all that to Ashley Hannigan, the main character in the book. The book had a tale of something that could happen to any regular girl, and I can relate that to what i imagine of the prom, even though I haven't experienced going through everything that is done. There is always something wrong in mind, but we always get through it somehow, in this case going to the prom and getting ready.

Prediction
I think what happens after the book is that Ashley Hannigan will start college off well, meeting new friends. She will soon meet a guy and be in a relationship with him. On one of their dates he will take her dancing, and she will remember about her prom. Ashley soon starts too fall behind on her school work because of the guy. After a while, the two of them wont be a couple anymore and Ashley will continue to study and work harder than before

reading book #1 !

The first book i had read was "Trouble's Daughter" by Katherine Kirkpatrick.

Prediction After Book
My prediction of what happens after the end of the book is that the man Susanna meets from her brothers work place; John Cole gets married with her, after a while they will have 3 children and Susanna would be the mother telling her children about her story where the Indians took her as their own. Her husband would come every night after work and listen to Susanna tell the children the story for bedtime.

Journal/Diary Entry
Hello, my name is Susanna Hutchinson, everything that has happened to me was over-whelming. Losing my family, and living the life of Indians i barely know anything of. I hated living with the Indians, since they were the people who killed my family, but after seeing how much they care for me, protect me and love me, i have learned to love and accept them as a family. Later on i am faced with the decision that separates my Indian life and from my old life. Of course i was excited to see my family members who are blood related to me, but I also didn't want to leave my Indian family who I have gone through so much with.

Poem
It is not fair, never will it be.
I am not this "pretty leaf"
I will not love them, I want to be killed.
My mother, i long for her.
They don't understand , nobody does !
They can not make me, I will not let them !
It's too late, i have changed.

This connects with my book by showing what the main character feels like after being taken as a child of one of their own. Susanna, the main character has to go through living a different life with new family members, she doesn't learn to accept them and love them like real family, but after all they have gone through and she sees how much they care for her and how well they protect, she accepts them as family and doesn't want to leave them.

Heroic ! or not.

Some heroic qualities Odysseus has with the characters in my reading book #3 are his intelligence, determination, and courageous. The characters in my book "Hearts at Stake" that have these qualities similar to Odysseus are Lucy Hamilton, a mortal friend of an immortal, a vampire. She is always faced with troubles concerning herself and her soon-to-be-queen-vampire-friend. Lucy has to face other vampires who want to kidnap Solange, the soon to be vampire queen, because of her pheromones. The qualities Lucy shows are the same as Odysseus' but in a different problem. These qualities compare with my own idea of a hero, because these qualities are what i think a hero should have. Intelligence to act quick and know what to do, to not make mistakes. Determination to never give up and lose the battle of doing good. Courageous to never hesitate or think of yourself as never good. These qualities are shown in Odysseus too, when he is faced to go against the Gods and the problems along the way that cause more of his men to die. His intelligence helped him think of strategies to over-come those problems or destroy them. His determination to go back home helped make him strong-minded and have the right sense of what to do in order to get what he wants. How courageous he also is from battling monsters and creatures, losing his men, and going through problems such as his ship getting destroyed by Poseidon.

This is a picture of the book i am reading for Reading Journal #3.
